Writing a book in 2025 is as much about the tools as it is about the talent. To stay organized and productive, here are the essential apps currently powering my writing workflow.
- The Foundation: Scrivener or Atticus. For long-form fiction, Scrivener remains the gold standard for its corkboard view and research organization. If you want an all-in-one tool that also handles professional book formatting for KDP, Atticus is the modern favorite.
- The Editorial Assistant: ProWritingAid. While Grammarly is great for emails, ProWritingAid offers in-depth fiction-specific reports on dialogue tags, sentence variety, and pacing.
- The Brainstormer: Notion. I use Notion to build my “Series Bible.” It’s perfect for tracking character birthdays, magic system rules, and plot timelines across multiple books.
- The Accountability Partner: WordKeeperAlpha. This tool helps set daily word count goals and tracks progress with visual charts—perfect for staying motivated during a long project.
- The Final Polish: Canva. For 2025, authors must be their own micro-marketers. I use Canva to design eye-catching social media graphics and simple teaser covers.
